Is static advance when the engine is at idle?

Do I need one of them adjustable timing lights?

Thanks

Get this to a rolling road who know what they are doing. Otherwise it will end up in tears. And you probably won't ever realise the true potential of the engine s performance

luckilly we have not done many miles with it like this. If we collected the car instead of having it delivered it could have been 140 miles sat on the motorway running lean!!!!

you dont NEED to pay for an engine tune, although highly recommended and i cant wait to get around to it. Simply adjust your timing, have you a haynes manual? check your vaccum advance timing is right, 8 degrees from tdc... ( tdc also explained in the later haynes manuals or on this forum) and then ignition timing, by turning the dizzy. all explained in the manuals or here somewhere. Just set the 8 degrees and then set the ignition timing so it sounds right when warm/ idles at the right speed :) Let us know if you sort it.

Static advance is when the engine is stopped (not running)

Timing light is good,  any will do, highlight timing marks on engine and pulley with tipex so you can see them better.

Do it with Vacuum pipe off the distributer

Can just set static if you want and see how it goes, advance a little and see if its better, you can advance until it pinks under load but then must turn it back a little cause pinking is bad

I've always had good results setting the mixture with a colourtune maybe not as good as a rolling road but very good!
