just an update to see what i find out

I have a rev counter in my mini and works fine but i want to down size to a 52mm
I have bought 2 one doesnt work and the other hits maz revs on tickover?

i have had a quick look on the net and some say its because of electronic ignition?

I cant understand why 1 works and the other 2 dont??

any ideas thanks

Because they are different. There are a few different ways to make a tacho and obviously different quality instruments behave differently. There are also a few different ways of controlling electronic ignition systems. Electronic ignitions generally have much shorter duration impulses and switch much faster than points based systems which is how they make bigger sparks. If the gauge isn't sensitive or responsive enough, whether due to the design or build quality or both, to pick up from the type of electronic ignition you have then it won't work.

Depends why it isn't working, but it's quite likely that they just plain won't work. What make are they, what type are they and what electronic ignition is fitted? You need to give us something to go on!

No good bumping unless you can tell us something about the rev counters. Some pictures of them would be a good start.

So the 52mm tach in your last picture is the one you want to use and it's not working?  Please post a picture showing the wiring on the back.  I think that style is the old Yaziki tach or a copy of it.  Seeing the wire colors and back of the gauge may help.

I know you already have these gauges but I noticed your boost gauge is by TIM.  I think TIM also has a 52mm tach.  It might be worth looking at what they have so you can put together a matching set of gauges.

In the last picture, why do you have both (what appear to be) a boost and a vacuum gauge?  If you are running a turbo, do not connect the vacuum gauge.  It is not meant to handle the positive pressure of boost and will be damaged.  The temp and volt gagues look to be Triumph parts.  That oil pressure gauge is interesting.  What is it from?  If you use it in your project, you may want to replace its bezel to match the other gauges.  Though the gauge says "Alexander" it appears to be a re-badged Smiths unit so any of the 52mm Smiths bezels should fit.  New bezels are available on eBay from a couple of sellers.

That does indeed Doug look like a Yazaki Tacho here is the wiring which came in the box, pay attention on the wiring for the short red wire and the long red wire though its shown in the colour picture, long red is side light feed in for the bulbs, short red is wired to either blue/yellow depending on the cars earth

Very odd I must say but one way of making a dual polarity tacho.

Thanks for going off on one yet again people not reading what I'm after??? I not asking about the boost gauge or the vacuum?? Or the volt gauge or what gauge I should buy.

I want to know why my 52mm rev counter won't work?
