Right, i have been asked (quite alot of times) to do either a Mini shell or a Minus.
Well, asked BMW if they had any problems with it, and after lots of emails they said they didnt, since they dont own the word Mini or the shell shape, Heritage do (and they are strict when it comes to that)
So asked Heritage if they had any problems with me doing shells and they said no BUT.............
and the but is this, they own the word Mini and the shell.
If i used the word or the shell (and i would need to use the word) then i would have to pay them for it.
Fair enough, till i found out how much.
Now some of you will have seen the RSR shells which came from a well known company called Hawk Cars, who sold em on when they found out how much Heritage wanted. They did Mini shells and the Mini Sprint too. Both came under Heritage so they sold em on to RSR who didnt look into the matter first (or if they did they didnt look hard or work it out)
So back to square 1 i thought.
But then i was asked to do some bits for a Minus, which i did and customer very happy. Then the idea of doing a shell came up.
So this is the bit where you come in.
Have you got a Minus shell i can borrow and take moulds from?
Can you all try to track down if the Shell is copy righted and if so, by whom.
and last bit
How much would you be willing to pay!
Thanks

If it was me, and it was a decent' strong shell... then I'd say about £1-£2k
Also, as Minus' are fibreglass, it would be cool, if there was a way of making them to be able to take a bigger engine than a A series

Scurvy Dog was looking at doing just this I believe and he has a shell, I believe MiniSprint on here has a couple of Minus, last resort I believe a guy called Ade has a scrap minus that he won't mind you taking apart, its gone mouldy and green anyway!

Just imagine if it was made out of CF!! *drools*
(bet that would be expensive!!!)
What would you have to do to use the shell? SVA test / Q Plate??

neither, standard plate since you are just reshelling not makeing a new car
so just think of it as same as a metal shell, but less prone to rust, lol

once my vans done, i'd absolutley love to have a minus. as dogmatix said, about 1-2k. a heritage shell is 2.5k i think so that would be reasonable.

smudger, i was looking into the FRA Shell when they were still doing it and they wanted £1500 for a shell, clubman flip front, rear valence and doors, boot & bonnet!
For a top quality shell like the one I'm sure you'd produce then you'd be looking at £1500ish! you'll have to make it a bit cheaper than the heritage shells and the other fibreglass ones (pimlico) so that you are the chice to make!

Yes you can still get them.
I was looking at the FRA shell too, and thought it was a great deal, as in value for money!

If you're serious you should also consider buying the minus shell that is on ebay at the moment, then sell it on once you're done with it so you wouldn't be out of pocket.
