im in utter confusion ive rebuit my engine (1275) and fitted a 266 cam i have a vernier timing gear so i dialled the cam in found tdc on number one and then set the timing disc on and turned it to cam full lift then using the protracter set it to 106 degrees, ive put it all back together and set the distributor drive correctly but it missfires untill i change number 1 and 4 plug leads

I assume that you timed the cam at 106degs max lift ATDC on the inlet, then you need to check that the distributor drive shaft is inserted in the correct position so when no1 cylinder is at TDC firing the rotor arm is pointing at the 1-2 oclock position, if yours is at the 7-8 oclock position then the shaft is 180degs out
