Hi all my name is Jean, this is my 5th mini over many years my 1st being in the 1960's my last one was probably the 80's. Now I own a 2003 mini cooper, I have had it for 15 days done 100 miles in it, and yesterday smoke appeared from under the bonnet cannot see anything burning but I am so ........ off, there was no warrenty given with it  so looks like a garage job, I gave up my lovely X-trail for this, as I only do about 50 miles a week, so disappointed

If it was bought from a dealer rather than a private sale I would go back to them, youve had it such a short time they might do it on a goodwill basis or failing that at a reduced rate? Cant hurt to ask.

Good luck!

Was it like burning acrid type smoke or a kind of hot burning steam?

It was not like burning wires, have had that on a mgb the wiring loom. It was like I thought steam, but when o/h followed me he said it was smoke, my brother said it could be oil leak onto exhaust and that was the burning, have put something on the floor under the engine see if it is dripping, will look later if it has'nt washed away, fingers crossed just a oil leak
