"Possibly the one and only Austin Mini with a boot in England, Imported to UK from South Africa by previous owner in 1980 a very rare classic indeed."

(I believe the Elf/Hornet body panel tooling went to South Africa for these hybrid Mini's when UK production ended in 1969)

That looks like quite a nice car! You're correct in saying that the body presses came out here. These are what the initial ones looked like and there were around 3700 made. There were plans for a Clubman fronted version too, as well as upgrading both to a full SA-spec 1098cc over the 998cc. They really are unique cars, with prices slowly climbing for decent ones.

I also noticed in the car from the classified, it has the later type Clubman style doors, not the early Elf/Hornet type doors like my car has.

Thanks for the information. You might also be interested in the discussion on these SA Mini's over on the Mk1 forum:

Same as my mk2 auto though really rare but doesn't unfortunately mean it's worth a lot, only worth what people are willing to pay, speaking to a guy last night about it and he was saying that unfortunately it will probably be bought to re shell a cooper or a cooper s (I'm selling it) as it doesn't matter how rare it is, it's not worth as much as a cooper or cooper s
Sorry just realised I have gone off subject! Haha

I have a 69 auto mk2.Bought it because it was the year I was born.Done 50 miles in it in about 7 years.I just have it sat about. The plus side is that it has never been welded in all those years. Its rock solid with original panels. It may not be a cooper but a mk2 with a shell this good will always be  worth money to someone .I have thought that one day it will probably end up going to someone who will use it to reshell a cooper aswell.Mine is island blue and has covered 50k miles with 3 owners in 40 odd years.

sorry I know its off topic but here is my mk2

Would you be up for a meet and a chat? If so I'll check how long it would take me to get to you and see if it's not too far haha
