I am getting wet floor pans as well as all the carpets and soundproofing up to the bulkhead.  Is the most likely cause the windscreen gasket (it's the original from '78) or from somewhere else?  If the former, what success have people had with products like seek 'n' seal?

Check the door rubber seals, the door strap rubber boot for splits and if not I would put a new windscreen rubber in. (a good quality one mind)

Or have you got holes in your floor!

As gadget says door seals and door strap rubber boots or haloes in floor, but also check any holes through the bulkhead where heater hoses go through etc, check the heater hoses. And of course it could be the windscreen rubber. If all fails remove your front carpets and dry all the moisture and give the outside of the car a good soaking with a hose pipe to see if you can spot where the water is coming in. On a personal basis if it was the windscreen rubber I would replace it with a new one.

The windscreen seal perishes as it gets older so as thy are not expensive I would replace it and the fillet strip as well.

It's also worth checking the coolant level as you may have a heater matrix leak.

In theory you should not need a sealant but the above would be good and use a standard width seal and the not wide type.
