Please Help! Stuck On Nut And Gearbox Will Not Come Off

Best Answer A-Cell , 28 February 2014 - 05:30 PM

If you are sure all the fixings are out. Gearbox needs a good thump to loosen the gasket seal. A hide or heavy rubber mallet. Or maybe a block of wood and a hammer. Once gearbox is off you can jam the crank against the cylinder block with a block of wood to loosen the crank damper bolt. Go to the full post

Hi,

I've been stripping my engine to replace the gearbox and cylinder head.

Engine out - clutch and fly wheel off as well as casings, I've come to take the timing case of and I cannot undo the bolt for the life of me, it's welded to the crank and the crank just spins because there is no clutch. I've undone and removed all the case bolts as I was hoping to slide the gearbox out then go back retrospectively to solve the timing case.

I've removed all visible bolts and the two nuts for the gearbox but that won't come off either it's like it's welded itself to the block.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I can't get the box or timing case off and I'm past running out of the garage wanting to scream.

There are a couple that can get missed, they are right at the end on each side with another close to. They can get covered in oil and muck to the point they are invisible.

Regarding the spinning crank, could you feed rope into no 1 cyl plug hole when its just past tdc on the compression stroke. Then when you undo the bolt the crank will turn until the piston gets almost to tdc and the rope will stop it going past.

Won't work with the head off of course.
