I think there is a legal obligation to notify dvla of change of ownership!

Question is, where did the old logbook go?
Assuming you buy the car... if the V5C/2 (new keeper section) hasn't been completed then you can fill it in with your details and send it with a V62 form to the DVLA and get a whole new logbook made up in your name. This process is meant to be for when the seller fails to send off the logbook for changing, or it gets lost in the post, but will equally work in this case.
If the V5C/2 has the Ebay seller's details already on it, then they will have to send it + the V62 form + £25 to the DVLA to get a whole new logbook. This will be in their name, so then they can do the transfer to the new owner as normal.
If the V5C/2 has a random person's name, walk away
Whatever happens I would check VIN/chassis numbers match and that you get a receipt!

If there's no chassis plate then you won't be able to fill in a V62 as that's one of the mandatory bits of information you need I think, so it would be quite a tough process.

If there's no logbook or VIN number, it is almost definitely stolen.
You don't just lose a VIN plate.

WITH CHASSIS NO VIN PLATE AND NEW KEEPERS SECTION OF V5
= (in English) With chassis number, VIN plate and new keepers section of V5.
I don't think he'd be allowed to sell it without VIN plate or V5!

This is how I read it! chassis no means chassis number!

Hi you don't need to know the last owners name to apply for a log book all you do is fill the form in with the reg and your name and send it off to dvla Hi there is a chassis vin plate on it see pic The ad was supposed to say number not just no I do hope this clariifies the question.
Still means that there is no chassis number.

All I can see that is missing is the front page of the logbook? Ive bought vehicles with just the new keepers slip before. You just apply for a lost logbook as a new keeper quoting chassis numbers (or No.'s) or whatever is required.

Nowhere does he say there isn't a chassis number, he says there is one! However he also says you can see it in the photos... you can't... it should be on the inner wing by the bonnet prop hole on this age of car (I think). The plate you can see on the right of the bonnet slam panel is the body number and not very informative.

Personally I have better things to be doing than questioning someone who may or may not be legitimately selling a car, just 'for kicks'.
I'm not being funny, but then don't you have better things to be doing than commenting on this thread?
And I'm sure that says 'With chassis number and VIN plate' rather than 'with chassis, no VIN plate', if that's what you were confused on.
It looks to me, like it's a legitimate shell sale, but they've lost the V5.
