Hi....just a thought, has anyone successfully fitted a warning light of sorts to the choke cable/mechanism.

I am the only one that will drive the car that can remember manual chokes and can envisage a lot 'choke' out journey's!!

You could use a cable and switch off a Triumph, they had a choke warning light and the switch just earthed out the negative cable to the bulb

It shouldnt be something you forget to be honest, on my car I usually find by the bottom of the road the engine running about 1500 rpm, and everytime I notice the rpm go up the choke goes in a bit and so I cant see you forgetting its out as any time you stop and the engine idles you will notice it running a lot faster than the 8/900 rpm it should be at

Quite agree!!! It's in no way necessary - but if the OP wants one why not....... came across a mini a while back with an ex triumph "fasten seatbelts" light - was intruiged for a mo.... then realised it was a take off from the alternator warning.....bit shoddy but it worked ;-)

I am all for vintage OEM+ type of features like the fasten seatbelts lights, smiths did a round gauge type one

But they tend to all be a bit gimmicky and pointless other than for aesthetics

I've still got a choke cable from a MkI Astra in the random spares pile that has the switch on for a warning light - it was something I was going to fit but never got around to it in my Minis and the GTM doesn't have one.

My choke cable never bloomin stayed open on its own..had to hold it or jam with a clothes peg. I have s/c injection now but use the choke level to hang my CB radio handset on...!

I use a locking type choke, never had to use a peg or had any issues.

I recently helped a friend with the choke cable on his '78.  His choke cable would not twist-lock so he ordered a new one.  It wouldn't lock either and BOTH cables also failed when the knob spun on the cable from trying so hard to twist the choke to lock.  I repaired the knobs on both and modified the metal rods behind the knob so it really would twist-lock.  The early choke cables lock much better without modification.

Kernow, what Triumph had the choke light?  I'm just curious as I haven't seen one (yet).

Ah... that explains it.  The only one of those that made it to the U.S. in the 70s was the Stag.  The 2000 made it here only for a very, very short period (in the 1960s).  The block in my GT6 is actually from a 2000 with a few mods to fit.  I have a friend with a project 2000 Estate that's been in pieces for years... I never saw it on the road.  I have never seen choke lights on Spitfires, TR-6s, or TR-7s but that's not to say they weren't there on the later cars.

I've got one of those clusters in my GTM. They were also fitted to Scimitars (SE6's anyway).

Predecessor of the Bright 6 module.
