Hi
I am 19 soon to be 20 and i am restoring a mini. The car will be insured once im 20 and will get added onto my bini insurance as a second car, whilst the car is in bits i may put my spare 1275 engine in. Will this affect my insurance by much? If so i wont bother and leave the 998 in if i do the conversion it has to be 100% legit or i wont be doing it for a year or 2 ?
Thanks Josh

id say yes, depending on the insurer.

Bini will most likely be a mainstream insurer, which will see the engine increase on the classic as significant mod.

You may be better waiting till you can get a classic policy and insuring the classic with a 1275 on that.

I run my clio 182 on my normal insurance, with my NCB.

My minis are insured classic policies, no ncb, agreed value (£5k+) etc for around  <£200 per year.

Maybe you should start making enquiries now, ask your current insurer what the premium would be for a 998 and a1275 as a second car at least that will give you a idea of what type of difference there maybe between a 998 and 1275.

Thats a good idea aslong as he asked for a std 998 and then the same 998 modified to 1275cc. A modified car may cost more then insuring a 1275 (which was built as a 1275 from factory)
