Thanks guys - I know WD40 is the wrong stuff but it usually works on the Pug 306. I guess the difference here is age.
I have a Metabo hot air gun so will use that and get everything sprayed up with shock and unblock as I will be passing Halfords today.

Worked a treat! Got the 3 in 1 branded stuff. Did the trick which is the important bit. :)
