Hi All,

I noticed recently that mini drivers tend to give a thumbs up or wave when they pass another mini driver on the road. This trend does not seem to happen with drivers of other cars (even classics cars).

Also everyone loves a mini. Whenever I have parked or filled up with petrol at a filling station, I have always gotten responses like: "That is such a cool car" or "I want to buy one."

I wonder if this is just a trend in Cape Town, South Africa, where while there are quite a lot of mini owners, there are nowhere near as many minis on the road, as compared to the UK.\

What do you guys think?

Greeting each other is sometimes seen in the older mx5's with the popup lights to say hello. Although I see this less often now, maybe due to most of the lights no longer popping up when asked or the numbers of those style cars dropping haha
Also very often bikers will greet each other with a nod, usually ignoring mopeds and learners.

Hi,

Yes mini drivers do tend to acknowledge each other and that also extends to MG drivers as well, not sure about other classic drivers. I also acknowledge mini drivers when I am in my daily driver, which can sometimes get me a funny look particularly if the driver is female, and I'm not letching, well yes I am but it's at the car.

Sure is common. Land rover owners do too.

Bit awkward if the drivers an old lady and you flash the lights :/

My theory.. is that no mini is really the same, so every mini driver can't wait to see the work of another, and waving, thumbs up is sort of a compliment of their work :)

I hardly see any when I'm in the mini, then I'll go and see loads when in the civic. Plus I drive the mini more

Yes, we do quite a bit of landy waving round here, although there are so many of them we hardly have our hands on the wheel. It gets a bit confusing when we wave the mini's when we are in the Landy and vice versa, but people soon get the idea.

Really nice to be acknowledged by mini drivers and with the age of mine get recognition from other classic car drivers as well.

Driving the Disco its hit or miss, you might meet another "Green Oval" fanatic or just some WAG on the school run who only cares how good she looks in her Supercharged Sport  :D

I only know about the land rover wave and also the biker nod. My dad is a biker so I would have known if he wasn't a biker.

I love it when I see another mini driver out there though. I usually wave and a blip of the air horn.

A bini waved at me once, I just shook my head in disgust. I always flash and wave like a crazy woman whenever I see a mini or any old car to be honest. An old Morris thou beeped and me a few weeks ago when they spotted me on a roundabout (:
