i find with mine it depends on how cold the air is, like in the evening it might take a couple of turn overs to fire up, but each engine i imagine is different, can depend on fuel and air mixture and i imagine on condition of the engine.

(He has just been checked out on a Krypton tuner so his settings are ok.)
This is why Peggy is so useful in keeping the revs up a bit without enriching the mixture

Huey will start without choke but won't run even at fast idle for about 45 secs without choke
Does the idle go up and down at all ? Just thinking you might have a 'leak' somewhere either where the carb joins the manifold or manifold joins the head, happened on my mates car when we put the stage one bits on her.

never had to use the choke even in cold weather starts first time everytime. i must be lucky
Sounds like its running way to rich, not good for the engine of fuel consumption plus it "could" also fail an emissions test for the mot.

but i did read about idling high!! mine idles at 2000rpm, then back down to about 700, pretty annoying really, but ive got used to it!! same as choke using all year round, but never tried the two pushes of the gas pedal...( might try that one 2mo!! ) if i remememememember!!
I think we all think we are alone with our little mini problems... mini!!!

But I find the 998's don't really need hardly any choke, only in winter..
