I am getting the car ready for the new show season and have encountered a problem with the car.
The car is a 1989 mini 30 and I had fitted an acuspark ignition system to the distributor.
Some 2 years ago I had starting problems and I got a local garage to look at it and changing the acuspark cured the running problems after trialling an old distributor with points .At that time the car would not run and would backfire when semi running.
At the moment the car will start first pull and tick over ok and warm up so that the choke can be put in and then left to warm up .
The problem is that the car will not pull away under load and then backfires and cuts out. It will then be able to be restarted ok and ticks over ok .
I have today fitted a new fuel filter as the old one was discoloured thinking it may be a fuel starvation problem but it did not improve it.
Hope someone has some suggestions as I am a bit stumped.

It could be a starvation issue, but first pull the oil dipstick and sniff it, does it smell of petrol?? If so replace the fuel pump as the diaphragm has split.
Now look for a fuel filter.. If you find one, change it!
If there is no petrol in the oil or fuel filter, next you need to:
Disconnect the fuel inlet pipe on the carb
Put the end in a clean clear jar,
Now get an assistant to crank the engine for a few seconds... Is there a decent amount of fuel in the jar?? Again if not, change the pump
