Don't they build houses with bricks? :(

I had my half stripped shell on bricks; half a dozen bricks stacked 2 high, with a thick plank of wood strectching across them, this was all under the front floor pan, didn't move an inch, and this was over the winter with rain and powerful winds.

Personally I think this method was as safe as sticking that plank of wood across axle stands, however I'd never use a couple of bricks under the engine or subframe.

yeah that's what my mate said. He now only has one working hand, and all he was doing was changing a set of alloys.

i got a trolley jack and a pair of axle stands a few years ago from halfrauds for about 20 quid.

Stop being tight and scrimping on the wrong things. Go and buy some axle stands.!!

I cringe just seeing people with an arm or leg under a car help only by a trolley jack.

Just dont risk it for the little money it'll cost.

Yeah, you use smaller stands for a mini! Haha.

Are they on the lowest height? Sounds like some stands we have that we use for standing trucks and pick ups on.

I got a good set of axle stands at a car boot yesturday for £2. I got lots of other bargins as well. I find mixing second hand and new saves money, especially on tools as it allows you to spend more on good quality mini parts.
