Hi guys
Me and my dad are really interested in getting into racing and I was just wondering what you think the best, cheapest (I know no racing is really cheap) way to get into racing other than karting is??
Thanks Jack.

Best thing is to win the lottery ;D .

Proper racing is just so expensive. For example, a 'Group 2' race engine3 for FIA Historics for a Mini will cost around £20,000.

I guess a Miglia engine is not cheap, maybe half of that to be anywhere near competitive.

Probably best to buy a prepared car to start with and ask lots of questions.

Then do the courses to get a race licence.

Motor sport is fantastic fun, but very expensive.

Good luck with it.

Depends what you want to do... By racing do you mean racing on a track with others? That's where it gets expensive.. I was told it costs 100k a year to run a competitive car in miglias..

When I looked into curcit racing (I was looking at rotax maxx kart champ) it would be about 10k a year but most will have bigger budgets

Classic Formula ford is supposed to be competitive and affordable.. As for price I don't know...

What I've decided to do (after looking at the options) is sprint racing... You can do it in a road car (needs to be taxed and insured) with a national B (non race) licence (£40)
Each event is about £100

You can probably budget for a couple of grand a year... And on the plus side you can run one car with two drivers at the same event...

Curborough sprint track is doing an open day this coming Sunday. Free intro to sprinting and you can do a couple of laps in your car.

I used to do autograss with my dad, and you are guaranteed at least two races a day + finals and open races if there is time, and points are scored to the car rather than to the driver in most meetings, so it is easy to share a car. It's also much cheaper than pretty much any other motorsport. We looked at karting and found it too expensive to be competitive.

Autograss, autotesting, hill climbing or track days are probably the cheapest options in the UK...

Q - How much does motor racing cost?

A - How much have you got?

Actually it's always just a bit more than that!

OP - What are you trying to get out of your motor racing? Hard competition? Pushing yourself and your driving skills further and further with ever faster cars? Image? Building a Mini or other specific type of car? A social scene?

Different forms of motor racing can offer a whole spectrum, each with different levels of desperation!  ;D

Autograss is brill.. Been around it all my life. Check out national-Autograss.co.uk for all info of locations etc..

The problem is nothing is cheap with any sport. It depends what level you go to with everything..

Stuck for Autograss info come to a race meeting ask anyone they'll help. Or pm me on here and I'll help you out with any info you need :)

Dont Caterham do something where you buy one of their kits and you get into one of the Caterham race series? I once looked at buying a road legal 7 that was an ex Caterham, Acadamey i think they call it.
