I once had a very slightly warped plate, or so it turned out. Put it all together and couldn't stop it from dragging so gears could not be selected. Had to take it all to pieces and fit a new plate.

When driving it it feels like its disengaging, but with clutch very low.. Maybe throwout needs adjusting?

Yes, You'll put excessive pressure on the crank thrust washers ok to try once or twice but don't leave the nuts off

Is the flywheel or pressure plate friction areas warped?

Not that I saw... So if its warped it must be very little warp..

Yeah, If there both warped even with a lot of 'throwout' I can believe it will still grab, when you see the plunger push 6.5mm or whatever it is when you took the nuts off, that is not 6.5mm of movement on the pressure plate friction area because the springs bend first

Its damaged on the backside ( so no friction needed here)

How do you think clutches work?

I thought only 1 side of the clutch was gripping, and when you press the clutchpedal the friction plate is pushed backwards ( to the right when standing in front of the car)?

That's one of the oddest things I've read on here! Are you happy with how it works now? It's fundamental to being able to fault find this problem and I'll be happy dig out some diagrams and write a blurb if needed.

Teach me ^^

On the topic, I'll be replacing the pressure plate and friction plate, don't think its possible that the flywheel is warped because of the pressur eplate comming loose?

Hope that will solve the problem.. When the engine is running fine I'll need a respray though now because of all the tolles that fell on the car :P

Sod it, these do a far better job than me of explaining it all than I could:

and this:

In short, the pressure plate has a friction surface the same as the flywheel but it also contains a powerful diaphragm spring. When released (pedal up) this spring clamps the friction plate between the pressure plate's friction surface and the flywheel.

When you press the clutch pedal you overcome the diaphragm spring via a pivot in the pressure plate releasing the friction plate allowing it to spin freely.

What you'll notice if you go look at pictures of clutch assemles is that the 'gap' produced when the clutch is pressed is still quite small so it doesn't take much to cause a problem if something has gone wrong.

Edit: You'll also want to check out this too:

http://www.theminifo...ent-types-used/

...as it covers the verto/non-verto clutches used in the Mini (they operate using the same principles but applied differently).

Thanks for the info!

Will be getting a new pressure plate + friction plate ( verto set from minispares) And a new respray when everyhting is fixed...
