So a couple months ago I completed 18 years of age and passed with flying colours my driving tests! Being tired of driving my instructor's Renault Clio and my mom's Honda Jazz I knew I'd want a car to call my own. Always having been a petrol-head I opted for the Mini. Best first-car ever.

I managed to find a 1992 'British Open Classic' edition Mini, in British Racing Green. It is complete with a full-length electric Webasto sunroof! It's a 1275cc engine running on a carb, and with only 22,000 miles on the clock when I first bought it - Ive since put another 4k hehe :) Did I mention its only had one previous owner? He did a very good job of keeping it in good nick (take a look). The previous owner kept the car mostly original, the only change he's made to the car is fit a stage 1 (K&N, de-cat, needle change). I can't help but feel like I found a very special Mini, and I want to share it with the community :)

So I've had Put-Put (thats his name) for a couple months now, and I've begun changing things on it. This is what he looked like a couple days ago!

The stainless door mirrors, interior rear view mirror, wiper arm and blades, jet nozzles, wiper plug holes, plasti-chrome roof trim, Mk1 style grille, internal bonnet release, no. 14 pool ball gearstick knob, and rubber pedals are my additions since purchasing the car.

Before it was all OEM (black plastic interior rear view mirror, plastic brg side view mirrors, black wipers/jets/plug holes, Mk3 grille w/ cut-out for external bonnet release, OEM gearstick shift knob, black plastic roof trim, special arches, rubber door sill moulding, metal number plate lamp housing matching body colour)

Since taking these images I've added a matching stainless steel number plate lamp housing unit. In these images I've removed the OEM 'Special' (riveted black moulded plastic) arches and the rubber door sill moulding. Doing this has revealed a worrying amount of rust on the nearside sill.... and I don't know what to do...

Lovely looking mini. Definitely the best choice for a first car. Enjoy it, and good luck with the rust treatment.

Is it just on the sill lip? Common for rusty water marks if theres been a trim fitted.

That's a lovely looking mini, love that interior.

But why did you leave a bowl of jelly and ice cream on the seat?  Were you at a kiddie's party? :D

I was enjoy some jello and strawberries while working on the car! nothing like a nice sweet refreshment when out in the sun all day :)

on the passenger side you can see its not only just on the sill lip, but also a bit on where the sill underneath comes up to the sill lip and connects to it (you can see it a bit more clearly in the 2nd and 3rd images) - do you know what is the normal procedure for treating rust like this? It's starting to flake off :/

My friend is currently selling his BOC in original condition. Think he wants £3500 for it.

Possibly needs a whole new sill...make sure you get a vented one not an oversill.  Sill will be about £25 (if you get an M machine one) or more for heritage, plus about six hours labour assuming there are no hidden nasties.  In the meantime you make sure the box section inside the sill is full of Waxoyl.

looks great, has the rusty sill got holes in it or is it just surface rust? have you kept the original parts for it so you can go back to original if you want? What sort of windscreen wipers was on it originally? black hook type ones?

I fear the worst too :/ at least for the nearside it appears so. I have no experience with this, this is my first car, and the first I work on :( I made a serate thread, here, with more pictures of the problem area, as well with a link to the rest of my imgur albums which have pictures of the whole car

The original wipers were indeed the black hook type - and yes, I am most certainly keeping all of the original parts :) (all in one massive box haha, wipers, jets, wiper plug holes, side view mirrors, interior rear view mirror, number plate lamp housing, and on and on and on!) There does appear to be a rust hole on the sill unfortunately :/ I made a seperate thread with more pictures of the problem area, here, there is also a link in it which takes you to the rest of the imgur albums I have of the mini which has pics of the whole car too.

I would love to see pictures of it! I use pictures of other cars as inspiration as to what to do my own little mini ;) I've always liked the BOC, they're quite a special flavour of mini ;)

Hello from a fellow BOC owner!

Hello to you too! It's great to see a fellow BOC owner and driver! From what I read up on them they're quite rare! According to HowManyAreLeft? there are only about 500 of the original 1000 produced still registered! And of that less than 200 insured and actually driving on the road! I have yet to see another fellow BOC driver and mini in person, boy would that be a treat :)

Ah right, thought you would keep it all, you may find yourself wanting to fit the original wiper arms again soon, most of the chrome ones you get are crap, I use the hook type arms with bosch s11(i think) blades on them.
