I didn't know there was a 88 Flame Red. Just learnt something more about my LE. Mine is one of the early 89's so didn't have alloys I believe. I'd love to find some pictures of mine from previous owners before my ownership.

The red limited edition from 1988 was Red Hot, not a Flame red. The Red Hot and Jet Black were launched in Jan of '88 (if I remember correctly) One of those was the first car that I drove on L plates (E834EEO)... then I drove a Racing (F564GEC) and passed my driving test in June '89 in the Racing.

1989 = Racing, Flame, Sky or Rose limited editions.

1990 = Racing green, Flame red, Checkmate.

I have some old photos and brochures if you are interested.

The limited edition Minis have always been some of my favourites, probably as they were very popular when I was in my teens. The two mentioned above belonged to a family member, but I have owned a couple of other LE's myself and my ex husband also owned a couple of LE's.

One that I have never owned, but always wanted to was the Advantage, they seem to be the most rare (unmodified) of the LE's... and I hope to own one at some point... *keeps everything crossed for a lottery win!

Nice information there. I have a brochure, one of my close friends got me one for my brithday last year. But if you could send some pictures of the Flame Red, that would be brilliant. Send me a PM so I can tell you an email address or other way to send them. Recently, just found out some previous invoices from past owners from my car history and try and contact some of the names on there to see if they have any personal pictures of my actual car during their ownership. Hope they dont take it the wrong way.

Yes, it used to be quite exciting seeing the stream of new LEs every year, and getting the brochures (which I still have). When I bought a Mini I was adamant that it had to be an unmodified LE of some kind and after consideration of a Rio (nice, but too expensive for the amount of rust) I ended up with a Racing.

I haven't seen an unmodified Advantage on the road for about 15 years.  My lottery win would however go on a Designer...I love the stripy seats, the red seatbelts and the grey (rather than chrome) external trim.
