Sounds like the clutch may not be releasing completely.
I haven't done much adjustment on this myself yet, but these two articles claim to help with adjustment:

Thanks for the reply, It does seem like the isn't disengaging properly. Would this only happen on down shifts? Because when going up the gears, it's fine...

That could be yes , check for a crunch when in neutral and selecting reverse.

Well i found today that my return spring has managed to split the rubber boot/seal on the slave cylinder... This will be drawing in air, yes??
It doesn't crunch into reverse nor 4th gear
If you give the clutch a few pumps does it help?
I've only tried pumping the clutch when stationary to try and make it go into 1st smoother, it didn't seem to make a difference though...
