So wich filter would you get?;) Ive thought about trumpets and socks too, but cant really find good trumpets
Whilst the foam socks are an easy and cheap way out, i would really recommend against fitting them. They have the tendancy to suck themselves in. They do not have any supporting cage and i have seen them get sucked in on wide open throttle. They are a last ditch effort if you really cannot use anything else.
So anything is better than that?
Not that it matters but it's a rover mini 998cc - did they ever get 55BHP out of a carbed one?
Well, it WAS a rover 998 Has a new head, 643 cam,... atm
standard filter housing with kn elements.

I wish I could use these but thats the set I bought So dont have an airbox
I was going to use K&N pancake filters with MED stub stacks, but that would cost me £210 all in, which is too expensive, although probably the most efficient option.
Instead, I'm using ram pipes and RamAir sock filters, will cost £40 altogether, much more reasonable. While I'm sure the cheaper sock filters probably would get sucked in, these look quite substantial. Below are links to the products I'm using, there's a picture of them in the twin HS2s picture thread.

I very much doubt it is even possible for that amount of filter to be sucked through those ram pipes.
You could even make a little cage out of some open mesh.

Do those pipercrosses look cleanable by the way? ( dont have experience with them so..)

Do you mean the RamAir ones I linked? If so, I'm fairly sure they are cleanable. Ask miniman24, he actually owns them

Ah, I didn't see the picture at first because my internet connection isn't very good at the moment.
I'm sure they are cleanable, I think all foam filters are.

I thought that 998cc coopers had that bhp in the 60'?
Will look into the socks etc toninght when Im home...
Yeah they did on a good day - do you have a 998cc cooper then? maybe I'm getting confused but sticking twin SU's on a 998cc mini won't turn it into cooper spec

Bad news ; pipercross filters are fubar ( really, you touch them and they fall apart)
But it seems.that a hs4 cone will fit too on the baseplate( will have a look though) AND under the filters I found 2 ramstacks, so thats good I think?

Really are the old twin tin airboxes that good? Below is my current setup with twin carbs and the period airbox, I'm torn between asthetics & performance, my head has always told me to fit twin K&N pancakes wherein my heart (& my eyes) really like the old twin air box, but the design seems so restricted compared to twin K&N pancakes.
