Heater Valve Leaking...

Best Answer PaulColeman , 15 June 2014 - 10:37 AM
I've fixed this by doing as somebody suggested and sanded the surface of the valve to get it flat (it was nowhere near to start with). I then made a new gasket out of 0.8mm gasket paper and it's sealed like a good'un.
Thanks people :)

And I quite agree that you can do without a heater valve/tap, in fact due to the reliability issues of them neither of my minis now have them. It does mean that you can't actually switch the heater off though, all you can do is have the blower turned off, therefore the heater still produces heat that radiates into the car. It's really not a problem most of the time, but I have to say that sitting in the L2B traffic this year wasn't all that pleasant as it was a hot day and I couldn't turn the heater off. (On the upside it did help the engine from overheating though!)

But the bog-standard heater take-off can be bought on ebay (with a new gasket) for about a fiver.
