I have been running in my 1982 mini 95L van after many years of it not being on the road and it has developed a fault, so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas before i start chasing wires. If i have been indicating right cancel and then put the hazard lights on only the right side works if i then cancel the hazard lights indicate left then cancel and try the hazard lights again both sides work any ideas ladies and gents?

finally got to the route cause at the inline fuse there was only one strand of the wire connecting it to the fuse holder so cut back and terminated.
so all working once more

I had exactly the same problem - it was a dodgy hazard switch. I careful stripped it apart, cleaned the internal contacts, reassembled it. A fiddly job but no more problems :)
yeah it finally stopped working completely this morning after a night shift so off to have a tinker

yeah very much ping, managed to get it back together though the contacts where very dirty so cleaned them up, but it now seem's that the flasher unit is at fault, wiring diagram with all the coloured wires on has been a great help many thanks for that

Even though the 3 pins work well, they give no indication of a bulb out or a earth fault, thats the down side if you call it that.

... or did you mean something else?

The 2 pin flasher units wont flash with a bulb blown so the green indicator stays on, the 3 pin ones will flash the unit and hence give no indication of a bulb or earth fault from inside the car, or all the ones I've come across do
