I really liked my cinquecento (was first car). Only had it for about 5months mind. In fact, will Harry talking about his cinq the other day, I went to look on ebay at them and got a bluey green one on watching that needs some tlc that I wouldn't mind going after :P

Those cinquecentos are horrific. Terrible car.
I'd rather a punto over a cinq.
In all seriousness, what about a rover 100? Or a cheap Clio ? Not necessarily cars I'd want to buy but cheap & plentiful.

Bit off topic, but I'll never forgot. The old chap who bought it off me on gumtree got the train for most of the journey, then rode the other half on his bike. Was confused when I opened the door and saw this geeza in his biking gear looking shagged out saying he's here for the cinquecento.

I know I know it's mainly associated with chavs, but what about a corsa B? You can pick up a fairly decent one within your price range. I've had one of them too :P had a silly exhaust on it, but loved the colour! It was only a stop gap anyway.

Actually miss that car a bit :P

Before you ask, no, I didn't put them red seat belt pad chavtastic things in it :P

Don't be tempted by Mk3 Mondeos. They might be cheap to buy and insure but they are sh**e.

They are cheap for a reason. As soon as they start to get near 100k miles your electrics will start failing and the suspension will be shot. Petrol engines tend to eat themselves as well and the rear brakes are prone to fail.

I'd be looking at a mk4 Astra for your kind of money. They are to be honest a bit bland as a car but there are loads of them around, spares are easy enough to get hold of, they are easy enough to work on, they are cheap (I've seen sub 100K mile ones for around £500) and 1.4 will be cheap enough to insure.

Nissan micra k11 every time! I paid £300 for mine, half the cost of the mini for insurance, reliable and good mpg. 5 adults can squeeze in at a push. Easy to fix, parts are a dime a dozen at scrappies. Used to commute in mine on the m25 and never a hint of overheating. Drove it to the alps twice at 80-90mph for 900 miles never skipped a beat. Give them a go on the insurance quote at least.
