Just about any aftermarket tacho will work. The two cables in the loom are power and ignition low tension (contact breaker). All you need to add are an earth and gauge lighting, these come from the PCB in the standard instrument pack so aren't in place as extra wires. As long as you don't get an ancient Smiths RVI gauge it should work. Go to the full post

Also I have adjustable hydraulic suspension it seems to be set at a height which I could do with lifting a bit higher to clear speed bumps a bit better anyone got any ideas how to do so?

Hydrolastic suspension? Pump more fluid in!
With the tacho, there are two types. RVI and RVC. RVI go inline with the coil. RVC go in parallel with the contact breaker/points.
how are you trying to wire up your tach?

As for the tachometer I was hoping to just use the existing wiring available? There's the standard bullet and spade connector hanging from the loom which I believe is where you would fit your Nippon one to, but having trouble finding one so was looking for an after market one to run off these cables (don't mind changing connectors ) that's about as much as I know, still relatively new to all this.
Thanks for all the help

Been looking for a Nippon rev counter for my mini and not had much luck, was wondering would any aftermarket ones fit and work off the wiring already there.
