Not Firing On All Cylinders

Best Answer Stevelee10 , 25 June 2014 - 07:26 PM

Sorted. Seems I got a bit carried away with the problem. Turned out to be a bad plug on no1 but I still need to sort the ign issue as it doesn't run well with the ballast but runs great with a direct 12v.
So thanks for the help Go to the full post

Would it not then only fire on 2?

I would go over the complete ignition system.

Check the plugs and leads (firing order).

Check the distributor cap and rotor for corrosion.

Coincidentaly have just started a similar thread myself as I have no firing in cylinder two yet there seems to be a good spark and compression so will be watching this

OK. Well I have been over the ignition. Plugs, leads , Rotor and cap are new and ok. But what I've just noticed is that the loom is ballest ign but I've got a 12v coil. So maybe that it's the cause of my issues. Gonna try giving the coil 12v see if that improved things.

If it's not that think I'm stumped since it was running fine before I fitted it to the car

Firing order looks like it is 1 3 4 2 on your engine...  ( it is a bit dark on the video though)

Should be 1 3 4 2

Well the valve clearance was ok. Cant see how that would change moving the engine 6ft and I'm on points ign

9v ballast feed to a 12v coil produces a very weak spark, do the 12v feed and see how it works then.
