Aah!

The car(which is from 1996) originally came with a MNE101170 with immobilizer. This had a single connector. The damaged wire is on this electrical part. Here the car wouldn't start after fixing the wire and replacing some fuses.

I then decided to replace the whole electrical system with another from 1994 which has 2 connectors. Everything else is the same. But still nothing...

The two connector ECU and the single connector ECU are two different animals. I assume that you replaced the ECU and the related engine compartment wiring loom only.  However, the alarm/immobiliser and its related wiring loom is probably still behind the dashboard.  This might be preventing the ECU from getting power.  From what I understand, the MNE101170 and its alarm need to have have a matched code, so that at start up they communicate and if the code is a match for both, the engine starts and runs. Maybe FlyingScot can shed some more light on how this works.

In the mean time I would check the ECU connector(s), probably pin 11 on the 36 pin connector with a white wire to see if there is voltage with the ignition switch on.  If not, the ECU is not receiving any power from the ignition switch.

Yes xrocketengineer your are correct the MEMS ECU with the 11 centre digits have matched 5AS immobiliser/alarm units.
The 5AS is coded to the ECU and sends a data pulse with a message to tell the ECU okay to start, mismatched parts means no go.

OP I am confused about how much you have replaced; ECU and loom and no 5AS? Or what?

Hi. I have replaced the wiring behind the dashboard too. Also the wiring to the fuel pump and tail lights is replaced. So now its a full MNE101070 compatible. Is it still pin 11 on the 36 connector? I will check this first.

What really confusing is that the oil light on the dasboard works as normal, but when trying the ignition to crk it does not dim. Probably because the start motor is not running?
