Bandwidth in bit/s may also refer to consumed bandwidth, corresponding to achieved throughput or goodput, i.e., the average rate of successful data transfer through a communication path.

Basically, all the data sent back and forth is classed as bandwith. When you rent webspace or a web server, you get a set amount of bandwith. If this limit is reached, the forum would go down until the next monthly cycle begins or we pay more. So its not about space as such in terms of the amount of sections on here, but the amount of posts and visits which uses bandwith by sending the data back n forth.

Again I do not understand this jargon about intergiggerwebs or what ever the doohickeys are called, and I do see where you are coming from about it not necessarily being relevant to TMF as such but when you just answer a question to do with a mini and someone replays you don't really get to know them. With the general banter its a lot more fun and light hatred and you sort of get to know people a bit more. Same way as when I got to my club meets I don't just sit in the pub and talk about minis. We talk about any thing people have done, work, holidays, job, funny stories, jokes etc. TMF needs that it makes people want to meet up more and get more involved with activities in my own opinion.

Our beloved JK thread for example. A few years back after some banter filled convo it was decided to all find a campsite in the new forest and hang out and have a crack the night before Beaulieu and everyone that went had such a laugh!

I dunno about some people but my mini is way more then just a car its actually a fairly large part of my social life and this forum in the past 7 years I have been on it has been a massive part in that. There are plenty of people on here (Toyboy) Lee for example that I met though this very forum that not only do we go to loads of car shows together but we do stuff outside of minis as well. I can't count the amount of times I have just randomly just turned up too his house for a beer or 12 lol.

I dunno what you guys will decide but I just hope you don't take too much of the fun out of this forum.

Thanks.

As above, and I am a member of quite a few forums and the most I pay is £5.95 per year and a few fivers.

I can understand the potential bandwidth situation. On my forum we have a chatroom for people to have group converstaions or 1-1 private chats. we have never had an issue with bandwidth fees but to be honest, we have knowhere near as many people on the forum as here.

I too do not have facebook so have to interact the old fashioned way IE by phone ( for friends who live miles away ).

Perhaps the addition of a chatroom might be something to be considered by the admin? ( or are they staff? lol ).

If there was an "adult section" then it should be from when you are classed as an adult ( 18 ) and not as mentioned as an example earlier, 30.

To the OP, if the answer is no then it would not be too difficult to set up a chat based web site. Obviously you will have to purchase a domain, register and pay for the name , get the site built and upload to a server. It shouldnt cost too much...........

With regards to paying £30 for an adult section? No thanks , there is an off topic section on here for banter. That, as far as i am aware it totally free to use ;D

The £30 was a suggestion, a thought....but it was interesting to see the comments in return. Theres a difference between off topic on a open forum and an adult section which was requested.

Creating your own site/chat/forum might not be a bad thing if thats the "only" way you can communicate with your friends.

Yup, I realise that and understand the comment.

Im sure there are even "adult only sites to chat with like minded friends. I was going to google adult chats rooms on my work pc but thoght better of it O_O . LOL

Perhaps a poll could be added to this thread to see exactly how many people register an interest?

OK, look at it from this point of view, Jon:

You've made a load of friends on TMF over the 7 years you've been on here.  That's great, so have I in my time on here.  You've been on holiday with some of us, you've arranged camping trips, nights out etc. that's also great.

BUT, you've done all of that without an adult section.  We've all done similar.  What would the adult section gain us?  The ability to swear?  Would that make ANY difference to any of the benefits you've already had from using the forum as it is now?

I don't think there is any need for an adults only section. There are plenty of external websites that do this...

I also think that any "off topic" posts should not go to your post count either. I find it strange that someone with 1000 posts can start a thread asking how to change brake pads or something similar, because all of their posts on a mini forum are about going to the gym or playing a game in a thread. ..

The team have discussed this, and the decision is that we are not going to have an adults only section on the forum.

The rules are clear across the whole forum that swearing is not allowed.

We have many members under 18, and they shouldn't be excluded.

The forum isn't suffering by not being able to swear on here.

I am by no means a non swearer, but I think the no swearing and autocorrect the forum uses makes it a much better forum than others..

just my opinion

I don't see why we would need an Adult Section?

If you want to go on them chatrooms there are hunderds out there.....

Also, why do you need to swear? Is there a reason you have to swear or just because you feel like it?

I said nothing in my post about wanting to swear. I agree I like the filter on this site. I dunno where you guys are getting that from but hey ho.  The idea was just an area a bit like the off topic section where you could post and have a laugh with out worrying about the easily offended people crying.
