I just like to help keep our little classic cars going and I love building engines, but simply hate gearboxes.

tut tut now now you know you wont get anywhere without a gearbox no matter how powerful your engine is.

keep up your good work tho,  :gimme:

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

Maybe a stupid question but there is no issue under normal running is there? this is only a problem if the belt/chain breaks yeah?

im about to fit a skimmed head with high lift rockers and i calculate around 10mm lift, there is 6mm valve face to head face and appx 1mm gasket, deck height not much so 7mm ish clearance. the valve would go through the piston by 3mm ish. im going to confirm all the measurements. with normal timing and standard cam there is no collision i guess, so increasing lift wont cause collision. but if the chain breaks its game over valves and maybe pistons?

cheers

Basically yeah, its fine unless there is a breakage or a serious timing issue,

it is possible to get issues on some really developed race cams with really high lifts, where you would need to mod the pistons for clearance but unless your running somthing like 1.7:1 rockers or a cam profile that needs larger diameter followers or a short stroke crank with long rods your pretty much going to be ok.
