hi all,

 

so still having problems with my battery

 

being off today i fully charged my battery and took some readings with my volt meter, 15 minuets after charging it it went down from

 

13.36v to 12.71v

 

and two hours later after not being in the car it was down 0.15v to 12.56v...

 

is it normal for a battery to drain like that? does it 'settle down' or is mine ruined??

 

a test from halfords said it was a "good battery"

In a battery each cell will provide 2.1v  so at full charge you should have 12.6-12.7V. 

The higher readings straight after charging are normal due to the chemical reactions taking place, readings should generally be taken 30 minutes after coming off charge to allow everything to settle as it were. Two hours after charge it has dropped to 90% without drawing anything off it, this does not bode well for the battery. 

The only thing i could say is keep an eye on it monitor the voltage see below to aid.

12.65v is 100% charged and due to the battery being charged I nowmally check after 4hours, with yours dropping away that quickly I suspect its sulphated, I bet if you drop tested it the voltage would not meet the requirement. I would be getting a new battery lined up, 075 is a bigger than standard and fits the battery box ok.

Will a bigger battery ware the altinator out quicker? Or out too much strain on it?

It might have to be halfords for convenience depends how bad it gets getting to work of the car won't start lol

What does the S4 on the Bosch one stand for? Or is that just there naming. Like the halfords HB (HB075)

S3 is economy range, S4 is energy and power for all car classes, S5 is their top range premium battery

Halfords batteries are made by Yuasa and are of a high quality. Most battery failures are due to the battery being damaged by the cars systems either through over or under charging.
