How do I go about removing the flywheel housing ? I have removed the clutch cover and removed all of the bulls that were holding the flywheel housing on but it still feels tight on there.

Think think I'm missing something out, can anyone help me out with this ?

P.S. Clutch, flywheel and everything is already removed, no sarcastic comments please ! (Gremlin !)
Thanks

It is easy to miss one nut or bolt between flywheel housing (known as the transfer gear case as well) & the block or gearbox.

If you do have all the bolts out then a little encouragement is required with a rubber hammer to let go of the block ;)

Yes a few taps with a rubber mallet is usually necessary as it's likely to have been on there a while. Gentle persuasion is the way forward.

There is a dowel at the bottom that will hold it on a little, but a little persuasion with a knocking stick is sometimes required once all the bolts are out.

Hi,

As above, gentle tapping all around the transfer case edge with a rubber mallet will help release it. These can be a bit difficult to remove if they've been on for a few years!!

Again, as above, there are 2 dowels(from memory)that also don't help with removal!
One at the bottom of the case and one at the top.

It's been said before, but is worth mentioning again, please resist the urge to use screwdrivers or other sharp flat implements to lever the casing away, as this can damage the mating faces of the transfer case and the gearbox!

Good luck and I hope you get it off ok!!!

Cheers, Steve.

Right, actually done quite a lot today ! Here are some pictures to show:

From start, previous owner sprayed the housing and cover and it has all been peeling off and not looking nice

Once i had removed degreased, cleaned up and lacquered

In the process of fitting it all

And once it was finished

Looks a lot better in person but I am pleased with it ! Will be cleaning up the alternator and dizzy tomorrow, fitting them, the manifold and hopefully my shiny twin HS2's !(camera isn't the best )
