Hi all, I got 2 questions,

first :

Any Advice for a needle starting point?

998cc- AEG 643 camshaft ( 288°), worked head, Double HS2 carbys with substack & K&N cone filters.
Got AH2 atm but is a bit rich I think..econd : when installing a fixed needle, how deep do you have to push the needle?  Do you have to level the thick part o fth eneedle with the carb piston? or do you have to push the needle all the way in?

Cheers!

What springs are you using - Red or Blue?

Don't push the needle all way in, step should be flush with piston face.

Using red springs I think, they look grey though ( bought these second hand) Will have a closer look to see if I can find any colour ; but I think it'll be red.

Thanks fro the 'needle should be flush' answer ;)

If they are red springs it will run richer than with blues.

Quick check on spring type (for HS2 only) - take both dashpots off, remove damper and drain out damper oil. Turn dashpots upside down and see where the piston settles (may take a bit of jiggling to overcome sticktion).

- if it drops all the way into dashpot you probably have blue springs

- if it is sitting about level with the face of the dashpot they are likely red springs

- if piston is completely out of dashpot then you have yellow or green spring

You should find both springs behave same. Hope this helps
