For sale is my 1989 Mini 30. This was my first car, I and I have owned this for 8 years, prior to this, my mother owned it for 1 year. This mini is in excellent condition after going through a complete bareshell rebuild from 2009 through to 2012. Since the rebuild, it has been stored in my garage only using it occasionally. Due to only being used as a weekend car, and with the arrival of my son, I do not have the time at the weekends any more. Seems such a waste for the mini to sit in the garage with all the work that has gone into it when someone could be using it!
Bodywork:
Completely rust free shell which has been resprayed in the original colour; pearlescent cherry red. The wings and front panel have been replaced by a fibreglass front end. This is bolted to the A-panel and down the top of the inner wings. The complete inner wings are still present (not chopped down like most). The bonnet is also fibreglass, operated by a pair of gas struts, and locking into place with flush fitting aerocatches. The engine bay has a partially smoothed bulkhead, with the wiring loom routed out of sight. Moving down to the sides, the door skins have been replaced with aluminium skins with new door rubbers. Group 2 arches with chrome strip are fitted. The bootlid is a double skin mk1 style fibreglass item, with the mk1 lamp and boot lock. Mk2 rear lights have been fitted, with Volkswagen Beetle fog and reverse lamps being recessed into the rear valance. The entire underside of the car has been treated with stonechip.
Engine:
The engine is a 998 and covered a total of 58000miles. It was rebuilt approximately 3000 miles ago using high quality bearings, oil pump etc. The gearbox was also rebuilt at this time with new baulk rings, centre oil pick up pipe, moly hardened pin diff, NOS 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, and fitted with a slightly taller 3.1 final drive. Nodiz mappable iginition system is fitted which removes the need of the distributor and runs from an ECU and Ford Ka coil pack. These were all new items (not the usual second hand Ford parts). The Nodiz takes the signal from a MED trigger wheel and sensor. The engine has a stage 1 kit fitted, which includes Cooper Freeflow exhaust manifold with Maniflow centre exit, K&N element filter. Complementing this is a Swiftune SW5 camshaft, duplex chain etc. Blue mini spares silicon hoses.
Brakes, Suspension and Wheels:
AP 7.5” Cooper S conversion brakes with mintex pads and goodridge braided hoses. All the brake lines were new at the time of the rebuild (cunifer). Minispares adjustable bottom arms, tie rods and rear toe/camber brackets. Hi Los, lowered Gaz dampers. Dunlop cones have covered a maximum of 5000miles. Solid front subframe mounts. The wheels are 10x6 GB’s painted in anthracite.
Interior:
Original Mini 30 seats are present and currently fitted, although the driver’s seats does have wear to the leather base. I had a Motordrive GRP bucket seat fitted on an OMP side mount, which is available at extra cost if wanted (I have a pair of Motordrive seats with a Scroth 4point harness). Optimise Automotive black headlining, Newton Commercial full moulded black carpet set including underfelt, suede dished steering wheel with snap off boss, KAD quickshift, MPI twin speed heater, custom switch panel with Lucas toggle switches, alloy door furniture etc. A centre speedo conversion is fitted with the correct speedo worm and pinon gears fitted to the gearbox so the speedo reads the correct speed! Due to now not being the original speedo, the odometer reading is higher than the actual mileage, although I do have the original speedo in the garage if you want it.
As you can see, the specification is massive, and it is not all listed as I could go on and on! I have extensive photos of the mini and though out the restoration, a couple are shown below. I have a fair few boxes of spares in the garage which include 8.4” brakes, original suspension components, 3 clock dash board, hoses, which are available for you to have a look through and take away if you wish.
The mini is currently valued with my insurer at £6000, and insurance is cheap despite all the modifications. I’m 24 and costs me £270 p.a. fully comp, agreed value etc.
The only ‘downside’ is there is a dent in the boot lid. I am not sure how it has happened, but is just below the boot handle. Also, some paint has come off the lower dash rail which was caused when removing the masking tape after the rebuild. I was either going to colour match this or cover the dash rail in black leather/vinyl anyway.
I have just put another 6 months tax on (until end Jan), and currently MOT until August 2014. I will however put another 12 months MOT on the mini.
Mini is located in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
