Hi everyone, currently replacing my accelerator cable thought it would be a simple job, but turned out to be a pain, the old outer sleeve that fits into the bulkhead has snapped off managed to get it out but the whole thing came with it, so now have a hole in the bulkhead and nothing to retain the new outer sleeve of the cable. Has anyone come across this before and what did you do to solve it as there is no off the shelf replacment, I was going to drill out the old rusty sleeve and re-weld the retaining grommit bit back in. I have a photo I found to show which bit I am on about (sorry if this is someones hope you dont mind me using it)

Thanks

Matt

Mine is the same :(

I came up with a genius idea for a replacement though as you cannot buy them.

you will need one of these which can be picked up cheap.

Then you need to carefully cut the top where the other end of the throttle cable is retained, and remove the collar from there. This can then be welded onto the bulkhead inn place of the missing one.

Hope this helps you.

Ben

Hello, i'm having the same problem, would a rubber grommet do the trick or is welding a new sleeve the only option ? Such a pain, like you, i thought it would be a quick and simple change the cable out job...... ourff

I just used a metro throttle cable.

It has a built in plastic grommet that pushes into the hole in the bulkhead.

Only really works with HIF carbs though.

If it is too difficult to get a welder in there, how about using the outer cable fitting from a bicycle handbrake that is threaded . A nut either side of the bulkhead on this fitting should do the trick.

Don't forget your shell will have a spare on it already. For the LHD version.

i have tried doing a system like this as i am currently having the same issue, and i found that over time the angle the cable comes out of the threaded section causes the cable to cut through the insert! after a few days or so of smooth driving it eventually gets worse and worse, even with a nylon insert in the metal casing it still eventually cut through
