The mini has had a modified head from slark race engineering for the mpi, its got a full maniflow system including lcb, and a catalytic convertor from mini spares all 3 of which are close to being a year old.

Mot garage seem to think there is a slight engine misfire and that the cataylic convertor is too small.
I'm baffled to say the least
Thanks in advance

Check your valve clearance and some say that a good thrashing before the emissions test can help

Was thinking possibly change the cat? Lambda sensor?
I took the car out for a good thrashing morning of mot though this was possibly a couple of hours before test, the garage actually said they tried for about half hour warming it up to try and get the readings down

You could try something like Cataclean. No idea if it works but I think you just put it in your petrol and it cleans out your CAT, might be worth a go.
Maybe injector cleaner too, my emissions on my SPi Fiat went down hugely with half a bottle of Redex put in it.

I wouldn't have thought the cat is at fault if it's only a year old.

Air filter is a K&N same shape as the orgianal air filter, again would be coming close to a year old, haven't looked at it or checked it since I put it in

Cheers Rob good service is next on the agenda was thinking changing the oil, filter, plugs, leads anything else recommended?

I wouldn't start swapping out sensors without being sure they are faulty, it gets expensive and is hit or miss at best.
Add air filter to your list and make sure all the sensor connections are clean and seated well. And check your valve clearance.
I'm on my mobile so I can't really check the emissions readings with what they should be.
The lack of comms with the code reader is strange though, what handset and lead do you have?

Sounds like the K&N is due a clean and re-oil.
This is the stuff http://www.halfords....lean-475ml#tab3 it's got good reviews too.

Yep it only works with ignition turned on and car turned off, won't communicate otherwise
It's an acr4

Thanks il try and give it a good clean either that or replace it for a new standard 1
That Cataclean stuff looks interesting might be worth a go

Google the numbers for the leads etc. There's info out there on what works best, failing that flyingscot will be able to advise. I had two wires touching the other day on my mpi, the indicator switch wiring, and this caused all sorts of issues, one of them being the comms with the acr wouldn't work. Are you getting any other electrical problems?
No electrical problems as far as I'm aware, have also read on here that certain leads won't communicate properly reckon il have to purchase another lead then

Cataclean got mine through due to only failing on emissions. Great stuff. Highly recommended
Reckon il be giving this a go have a free re test so worth a shot along with a good service

Lead you have is the best bet to be honest it the genuine Rover lead can have problems with.
If you have no communication under ignition power, there are several possibilities but most common is the wiring to the diagnostic plug, I would be checking this first as without being able to read the running data you will struggle.
