have a look at the rad, they can get corroded by road salt, so the fins fall off ant they dont cool  enough, so they then run hot and the gasket gives out,

a symtom is the fan staying on after you stop.

generally a pretty sturdy little engine though,

Yes, the rad is on the list of things to do, another cheap thing at only £13 each :-)

I'll probably do it after winter, as now it is cooling down, my temps are getting more sensible.

I bought a scicento sporting in yellow for my parter a couple of months ago. For 200 quid
Taxed with 100k on the clocks & 2 Worn drive shafts.

Replaced ths shafts & took her for an mot
Randomly met the original owner. Who stated it's spent most of its life being towed by their camper :)

I did wonder why it was so mint with 100k on it

Got a full service & cambelt fitted , she runs a treat.

I never knew how fast these cars were.
5 speed 1.1
I thought of sticking the engine & box in the mini
Ha ha

All alright?

Wet lane, probably going a bit too fast (about 35 I think), van came the other way in the middle of the road. I braked, locked up the front and scraped along side it. This was two days ago.

I haven't heard back from any insurance companies, and I'm going to buy a new door and qtr window, weld up the hole in the B post, bit of filler, and it'll be fine.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

You best learn quick to control acar in the wet if you are putting the mini on the road, even on thin ish tyres they will aquaplane from the slightest bit of water! Glad your ok but looks pretty nasty. Did it smash windows or have they just been taken out. Who's insurance is it coming off?

Yep, both windows are smashed. I have no idea about insurance as no one has contacted me.

I managed to keep the rear wheels from locking up, which seems to be quite easy in these as there's no weight over the rear end.

Just have to hope it stays that way, still a pain though! And yes my mini has a bit of a problem with the rears locking especially in the wet!

I don't really know how it works to be honest, it was a company van and the two men driving it had very strong accents and neither of us could really understand what they were saying. They wrote down all the details of the crash into a form which they said they'll give to someone, then their insurance company will contact me I think.

I'm assuming I am liable as it is my car that skidded into their van.

I won't be using insurance for my car though, as a new window and door can be got for £40 and I can weld up the B post myself, whack some filler and some paint on it and it'll be fine.

Unlucky mate.

I almost lost it on the way to work at 4am the other week and it really woke me up. I was doing around 45-50, hit a bump and it completely threw the rear away from me. I think the road was very slippery too. There was a parked lorry to the left and another car coming heading in my direction. Luckily I managed to downshift and power out of it, if I hadn't I'd have gone straight under the lorry who's side would have been directly in line with my head! I've slowed down a lot since.

These are things you'll only learn from experience. I don't drive fast or unsensibly by any means, I'm very sensible, but there are times when I've really pushed my luck. I'm lucky I learned from that before I wrote my pride and joy off and almost hurt myself and an innocent driver driving to work!

Started on the repair today, welded up the hole (not much fun with galvanised metal), filled, and painted.

I need to get another can of paint as one wasn't enough and it's a bit patchy. Considering I've never done any bodywork before, I'm pretty happy with that.

New door and window has been ordered, unfortunately, it is blue, but that's all I could find.
