hi, if i were to accidentally put some engine parts in the dishwasher while no one else is home would it cause any damage (to dish washer or engine parts) and put health at risk by washing plates ect with it in the future? For those that have tried it did you just use a normal tablet like when washing plates?

However if there is a lot of contaminants on the engine parts then you could contaminate the water that comes from the spinners and the water to clean the dishes if it is not properly cleaned after you have done it.
Could you not soak them in industrial engine degreaser and then jet wash it off after ?

I think oven cleaner does a good job if you want to avoid the dishwasher .

I wouldn't be too worried about the potential health risks caused by putting dirty engine parts in the dishwasher, more worried about the health risk caused when 'the someone' else gets home and finds dirty engine parts in there. Having said that, the only reason I haven't tried it in the past is that I refuse to have a dishwasher!

I prefer to wash up than load and unload the dishwasher!
But they are good for cleaning bits. Mate had one in his utility room for this purpose, but was only used for car stuff

Buy some dirty cheap store brand cola, put it in a bucket, put your parts in and leave overnight, you'll be amazed how nice things come up. Rinse off the residue after and job done. No angry wife

Only when there's no one in
I have a few times to clean light lenses. Brings them up like new lenses but I have never done it with engine parts.

I did my Carb on a 70 degree was the other week, came out nice and clean then I just used a dishwasher cleaning tablet and SWMBO never knew a thing.
