hi, if i were to accidentally ;-) put some engine parts in the dishwasher while no one else is home would it cause any damage (to dish washer or engine parts) and put health at risk by washing plates ect with it in the future? For those that have tried it did you just use a normal tablet like when washing plates?

I have used it for ally parts and its brilliant. I wouldn't want anything too dirty in there. I don't use the dishwasher tabs, I just use a cap full of degreaser. I then run the dishwasher empty on a hot cycle a couple of times to clean it out after.

The only health issues that there would be wouldn't not be regarding the water, I would be more concerned with oil and other contaminants on the washing trays(where the dishes are put) and the spinners that fire the water out, the water wouldn't be a problem because the water used in that cycle goes to waste.

However if there is a lot of contaminants on the engine parts then you could contaminate the water that comes from the spinners and the water to clean the dishes if it is not properly cleaned after you have done it.

Could you not soak them in industrial engine degreaser and then jet wash it off after ?

I think oven cleaner does a good job if you want to avoid the dishwasher .

I wouldn't be too worried about the potential health risks caused by putting dirty engine parts in the dishwasher, more worried about the health risk caused when 'the someone' else gets home and finds dirty engine parts in there. Having said that, the only reason I haven't tried it in the past is that I refuse to have a dishwasher!

I prefer to wash up than load and unload the dishwasher!

But they are good for cleaning bits. Mate had one in his utility room for this purpose, but was only used for car stuff

You can get poisoned very easily if something has been previously contaminated or even came in contact with oils and whatever else is in the engine parts he is putting in the engine, ask especially if it's going to be put in somewhere where it is used often and comes into contact with everything that is used, cooking eating drinking etc

Buy some dirty cheap store brand cola, put it in a bucket, put your parts in and leave overnight, you'll be amazed how nice things come up. Rinse off the residue after and job done. No angry wife ;-)

I've annoyed my mum on several occasions by cleaning rocker covers and inlet manifolds in the dish washer! That said though, I did give them a good clean beforehand to get most of the grime off

Only when there's no one in  :shifty:

I have a few times to clean light lenses. Brings them up like new lenses but I have never done it with engine parts.
