Well, i thought i would start a Project thread, although it's not a full strip down and rebuild (yet!) it should be cool to see the transformation from '92 Mini City to 60's Rerto Racer. Plus it's a good place for me to store my progress!

This was the beginning:

Some of you may have already seen these photos from my introduction. This is what i started with!! Pretty smart as is i reckon. Little bit of rust here and there, but most importantly a previous owner has changed to 10" minilites and cooper S disc! Yahoo!

got these new parts today:





Minispares stage 1 kit, which should give me a bit more from my 998.
New cones all round as the old ones have been in situ since manufacture!
New windscreen rubber and trim, essential as the old one is cracking and i can do without any leaks!!

Oh and i've took the wing mirrors off, didn't think they suited the car, unfortunately i was left with three holes in the door so i just put the original screws back in! Looks a bit untidy but better than the chunky stainless steel things. Going to get an overtaking mirror that sits up high on the A post. This should suit the overall look of the car nicely.



And minispares in Brum didn't have the hi los and dampers that i wanted so i'll have to wait for those, but this should be enough to be cracking on with. Then when she's running and handling nicely it's time to move to the interior!! And those seats have got to go!!

Any comments welcome. This will be a slow time project as i said, she's my daily driver too, so any work has got to be drive in drive out or weekend type stuff!!

Think your right there mate, i can see that this is going to be a money black hole!! As i'm sure lots of you have already found out!!!!!

I've been meaning to do it for ages though in all fairness and now i've eventually got my behind into gear i'm loving every minute of it!

Where does it all stop though..................

Cheers CAU998. Yours is starting too come together too! Wish my engine was that clean and shiny! No chance of that i'm afraid as it's a daily sriver, so oily and working is all i'm hoping for!!!

Oh dear!! My wallet is soon to have a hole in it bigger than some of the ones in my rear subframe. :'(

Took Susie into the garage to have all the bits and bobs fitted that i have bought for her (including since last post a hi lo kit with lowered GAZ dampers) only to find out that she needs a new rear subframe. :'( :'(

In all fairness i knew it was a bit rusty but had no idea as to the extent of the problem!! No point sticking gucci stuff on her for the subframe to fall out in 6 months though and besides what else was i going to spend my money on??!!

Indeed, I recently had to fork out a lot to get the rear subframe done!

yep i did my rear subby not long ago!!

i now need to overhaul the front running gear

ask your garage if you could have the new subframe for a few days before the car go in

that way you can give it a few coats of hammerite and should last a bit longer next time
