When you took it apart, did you fully clean it out?

Also did you re-assembled with brake fluid or rubber grease?

cleaned it out with a rag completely and also used copper grease to lubricate the cylinder but the bottom piston seems to hit something on way back up but there is no scores in cylinder or on the piston

Copper grease / slip / ease.... Is more of an anti seize compound, to stop metals bonding together, than an actual lubricant. It can cause some rubber to swell or harden. As Alex mozzarella says, your better of with brake fluid or rubber grease.

That said, I doubt it cause your current problem.

When you push the piston back, do you have the cap off the reservoir / an eye on the fluid level? Pushing the cylinder back forces fluid back into the reservoir, there may not be enough space.

Bit of a long shot, but just in case :-)

To be honest, as it the brakes, the most important system on the car. I would opt for a new Master Cylinder. They are not that expensive :)

However On some you need different copper unions for the lines to the bias valve thingy
