Hi,

My mini failed its MOT today (at KWIKFIT) and I urgently need to get it fixed by tomorrow am if at all possible.

It failed on headlight adjustment, which I can sort myself but more importantly it failed on CO emissions. Hoping for some simple and cheap advice to resolve without the expense of a new cat. I tried an engine improver after it failed and ran it for 40 mins at high revs up the motorway but it still recorded a fail on CO. Results as follows:-

Fast Idle CO: 0.22/HC: 66/Lambda: 0.993

Second Fast Idle CO: 0.26/HC: 58/Lambda 0.992

Second test after the run was still at CO 0.26

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

I might be wrong, but I'm sure when I was doing mots at my old work, the machine raised the limit to 0.30 for the co, after failing the first fast idle test....

a quick service might help if its not been done for a while, plugs and air filter are most likely to effect emissions.

Plugs and air filter are definitely worth checking and replacing if necessary. If not, a bottle of Cataclean has never failed me, a bit expensive but it does work.

How does the car run?

Check the air filter isn't clogged up at all.

Yes, the CAT needs to be hot and fully up to working temperature to work properly. Usually the tester will warm the car up if it fails, but sometimes they don't.

KwikFit.  Go elsewhere and I guarantee it wont be a problem.  Cowboys the lot of them.
