You'll have to rev it to exactly the same level to reach the same speed provided the gearing is identical. You just swap gears earlier as the power band is theoretically lower (depending on the tune) but in top gear both engines should be doing the same rpm to achieve the same speed.

Sort of thing I was looking for, thanks  ;D

1275 on a 998 city e gearbox, i guess 2.95 final drive, average figure is 49 mpg.

convert that to mpg, and add in equation 11% of my speedo mistake

in fact, German spritmonitor.de site is very well known source of real fuel consumption figures from real people. Sort of social notwork of cost:)

I think one of the biggest factors is the driver. With more power from a 1250 you'll be very tempted to use it and then your fuel consumption will rise.

I disagree. You'll be tempted/obliged to use all the power of an 850 or 998 for example.
In theory the mpg of a 1275 should be fairly similar to a 998 as it doesn't need to be worked as hard.

Is there a noticeable difference in power? I thought it would be negligible.

Difference in power between 998s and 1275s? Yes. If you want more power/torque then the 1275 will provide it. However, some people prefer 998s - myself included. There is quite a scope for improvement with better flowing manifolds/gas flowed heads etc.

There isn't much between the carb and injected models. I prefer a good carburettor to injection any day, but again that's just me.

That's what I've been saying. You have to rev a smaller engine more to make it go the same as a 1275 that isn't pushed as much. Therefore, I would assume more fuel is used by the smaller engine.

In all honestly I couldn't care less. I'm not into Minis for the fuel economy.

I'm not into the cars for fuel economy either, but if there was a better engine to get, then I'd set my sights elsewhere.

It's all about the price. If you have the money for a 1275 then buy one. Small bore engines are much cheaper and you can have just as much fun

Also, does anyone know the MPG difference between the Manual and the Auto?

Thanks
