These look like they'll offer more light.
I've got rid of the light holder too. Was looking at the pokey little plate holders already mentioned but worried about MOT failure

Here's a prototype of a LED light I used on one of my carbon lids. The lid is based on the MKI but the recess made to fit the North American plate. I wanted a more subtle light using LED and have a couple more ideas to try before going into production.
The light is encapsulated in epoxy so no problem with water.

I've done away with the numberplate light housing on the boot lid of my project Mini. The holes were welded up, and it looks so much better.
I was going to get a Mk1 numberplate hanger and light housing and fit an LED bulb in it, but they are so bright I'm worried it'll light up the whole back of the car.
I think I might go down the route of those bolt lights. Nice and clean looking.
