Good..... 'because half of my screen height on the passenger side is tax disc, so I had previously always taken left handed corners wide as I couldn't judge the corner O_O

This will make cleaning the inside of the windscreen much easier too! I was always either knocking the holder off or ending up with streaky marks round it in an attempt to avoid disturbing it.

I've taken the tax discs off my cars now. So much better. Apart from work mate telling me that I haven't got tax >_< so told him about the change. Then filling up on way home, chap on pump on side of me was clearly looking at my windscreen where tax should be /:

Same with me, I've only been to the petrol station and a nosey woman told me I need to buy tax.

I've taken the discs off all our cars and it looks so much better!

Just printed a December 1975 disc of google images, and slapped it in my screen. Let's see what confusion that causes people!

Right then, so from what I can make out it would seem that any sticker is allowed so long as it dosent encroach more than 10mm into the swept area of the windscreen immidietly infront of the driver (145mm either side of the centre of the steering wheel). There seems to be less of a restriction on the "Official Stickers" I mentioned earlier, so long as they don't seriously restrict the drivers view.

So on that basis, it would appear that an old/replica tax disc should be fine, so long as it's displayed in the traditional place.

Just wish they would apply this restriction to the ******* who drive around with their satnavs in the middle of the windscreen.

Guilty  :proud:

But not on the Mini.

It's astounding just how many people seem completely unaware of the change. I thought it had been fairly well publicised, but I've mentioned it to loads of people over the last few days and weeks and everyone seems to think I'm making it up! When I go on to explain that you'll be able to pay by mothly direct debit as of next month too, they look at me like I'm crazy!

So it looks like it's basically just us car geeks that are in the know on this one. I guess that for most people it's going to be one of those things where they won't notice the change until renewel time, when they get their reminder through the post telling them that they wont now get a tax disc.

^^^^ Superb!!

My personal favourite:

"10. The aftermarket tax disc holder was a popular method for motorists to express their individuality. For example, a silver metal holder with fake Allen bolts on it was an unbeatable way of indicating you were a weasel-faced tit with a badly modified Saxo."

Today wasn't a good day to need to renew our tax disc :-( DVLA website down all day and although the phone line was working you couldn't apply to pay by direct debit.

Popped down to the Post office to see if they could renew it on a direct debit, the response "oh yes but it isn't available on our computers until the 5th October" ARRRRGH

Had to stump up for the 6 months, to be fair was slighty my fault in that I forgot September doesnt have 31 days.  >_<

Same here - spent most of yesterday evening and this morning on the site and phone, classic public sector lack of foresight. How's that snappy little ‘Simpler, Better, Safer’ tagline working out for you today DVLA? I hope the social media intern managing your twitter account is getting paid more than the marketing drone who came up with that gem.

Also annoyed about the direct debit option not being available yet. But hopefully I'll get it when the mini renews at the end of October.
