The chassis is very basic as standard yet they still seem to put up with a fair amount of abuse. Mine will have a fair bit of extra strength built into it. This will mainly be in the front bulkhead and foot well areas but it all needs some triangulation to stiffen it up a bit.

I'm hoping it will handle as well if not better then a standard Mini, I don't want huge wheels and I want to keep it fairly soft. I will just have to keep an eye on how much extra metal I weld to it !

It should go quite well too with the engine I have to go in it, on the road at least.

I will start off building a cage at the front and go from there. What will be the back of the cab will have diagonal bars and one across the floor. Not sure what to do with the back, might take some bars from behind the cab to somewhere that the suspension attaches to. I might fit coilovers so down to the top of those might be a good idea, otherwise it will be to the corners where the radius arms attach.

A lot will depend on how much box section I have left I don't think I want the hassle of getting any more, plus it's expensive as it imperial size 1 1/2 " square.

Gotta ask, as I've got box section upon box section in my project Nomad, the small area between the door space and the windscreen, that kinda triangle bit, what are you going to do with that? Plate it? When they rebuilt the Nomad, they had a massive space and used Perspex to fill the hole to remove a possible blind spot, though it looked hideous. Just thinking what I can do with it, and what you'd be doing with yours!
Looks grand though!

Thats a tidy looking one. If I can get my engine bay looking that tidy I will be very pleased.

I've not done a lot to this for a while. This is mainly down to having to keep the Scamp outside until I build some sort of shed/workshop for it, as well as a couple of other problems.

I have recently had a DVLA vehicle enquiry returned so I have a bit more information about it's past. It would seem that for most of it's life it's been used off road by a riding stables in Kent. I don't think it's been on the road much since, which explains it's condition a lot. In a previous life it was a Mini Clubman and was given a new lease of life in 1984 when it was first built.
Interestingly while most MK2 Scamps will have a factory supplied chassis number mine has one given to it by a local liscencing office and starts LVLO and is then followed by a number they allocated to it. This number was stamped onto the tube which is effectively the bonnet slam panel right where you can see it, unless it's been well covered with a few coats of paint that is. I don't think anyone has know it was there since the original builder had it stamped there all those years ago.

Hopefully as soon as I can put some sort of shed up I can get on with it again I would have done that a bit sooner if I hadn't finally, after about 7 years, put up our greehouse !
