I need a new coil but not sure which one to get….

Quite a lot of people use the gold sports coil but I have been looking at the Pertronix coils.

What do people recommend?

Thanks

As Kernow suggested, please read his FAQ on coil selection.

As Cal said, if you are replacing the coil and you have already fitted an (aftermarket) electronic ignition, you no longer need the ballast coil.  Fit a 12V coil and run a new 12V supply wire to it (bypassing the pink/white wire).  Do a little Google searching regarding coil brand reliability... some name brand coils are not as good as you may think.

As a member of this board once wrote "Gold coils are only good for pub points".  His meaning was, if you don't switch to electronic ignition and open the spark plug gap up a bit, having a "performance" coil will not benefit you in the slightest.  If you are not willing to experiment with the plug gaps and then the ignition timing, stay with a standard coil as it will save you money.  The benefit of a performance coil only comes about when you deviate from the factory tuning specs in one area or another.

Avoid those new Lucas gold coil like the plague, i can only reccomend intermotors coils.

Browse the FAQ section thoroughly, theres anything you need to know about coil selection.
