I can safely say I won't be doing it again. The motorway was clear, I'd previously pulled over to offer assistance to a stranded motorist in a Ford Focus who had broken down awaiting recovery back to somerset in the hard shoulder, Rita was sounding a bit rough and generally felt 'different', once I was confident that she was okay I decided to follow the normal routine but it isn't worth the worry of wondering if you did get snapped or not!

Ah, well given that it is a CCTV camera if they saw you doing that you might be getting a brown envelope anyway. Stopping to help someone on the motorway is illegal and stupidly dangerous. The Police / Highways / trained recovery drivers are there to help them, you don't need to get involved.

I worded that wrong. I had pulled over about 10ft shy of where he was to check that everything was okay with my car since it felt strange. I'd just done a full rear brake rebuild the day before and so wanted to be sure before continuing. I didn't pick the spot, I just went from 70mph in the middle lane to the hard shoulder and he just happened to be there since he was watching me the whole time it would have been rude to have not offered assistance in case he had run out of phone battery or something. Had I been stranded in the same situation I would hope somebody would do the same for me
