Hi peeps feeling quite disheartened with how my respray has turned out as i painted my car in cellulose last month and i be honest it was quite orange peely never the less I did a good 5 coats and started wet sanding with 1500 wet soapy water and let the paper soak for half an hour. Some parts I did with 2000 wet. I am overall happy with the shine but I have still got small scuff marks after buffing 3 or 4 more times using g3 and then auto bright direct enrich t cut. Plus I also have what look like residue marks that are hard to explain but are pictured. Tempted just to throw in the towel and re paint it. P.s I am not painting it in 2 pal as it painted in garage

I wouldn't have used 1500.... Perhaps the marks are from that paper. Have you tried machine polishing?

Yes using a machine buffer medium foam pad. So basically I have ruined my paintjob

Here is the marks like residue. Used a water filter on my gun too and used 50:50 and then last coat was 60:40 with the more thinners

If the marks are akin to the same made by rough sand paper then it was the  1500 grit thats done it, I would say you need to work up from 1500 on the areas with ideally 2000 until the marks have gone, then polish up with various grades of polishing compound with a mop.

I wouldn't say you have ruined it but it will need taking out gradually, but be careful not to rub through the paint!

Post up some pictures before you start so we can advise with more info :)

Edit!

Ignore me, they look like little fisheyes, I would say its either severe orange peel or silicone contamination which causes tiny little fish eyes or water contamination that causes little blisters

This is severe silicone contamination:

and this is water contamination blisters :

Good tip for flatting. 1500 flat then da with a interface pad with a p3000 trizact pad. Will give it much finer scratches to polish up. I also use g6 on the machine then a handglaze on a special da polisher we have at work for a mirror finish. Those marks look very unusual. Think its contamination in the paint but will have another look when i get to my laptop.

Look like water from your compressor, its a common issue when painting in a garage.

use a water trap on your gun

make sure compresser is empty of water

make sure temp when painting isnt to cold

good extraction is a must

to be honest if it were me id flat it off and do it again it may cost you a few quid and some time but you will prob be happier in the long run.

sole destroying i know.    If I dont get it almost perfect out the gun I flat it and repaint,

Looks like water contaminate in paint from pictures you have posted. Thanks for that peeps. Looks like it needs to be re painted. Temped just to buff it up. And enjoy it for a year. It's annoying because I used a water trap filter and drained my compressor before refilling it

1500 is too coarse to be honest, 2000 wet and dry using lots of soapy water (car shampoo) and checking the paper for any pickup. Looking at your pictures it does look like water contamination and if you have bare metalled the car then you really need to do it once again.

Do not be tempted to flat back and paint again as all you will be doing is trapping the water even more and of course Mr Rust will make a very quick appearance. It will be back to bare metal and try again.

On a footnote i did this on my wifes mini in the mid 90's. My water trap was not up to the task plus it was during the summer and humid. Oh and celly. i learnt my lesson then. (we sold the car like this and the garage slapped 2K on that)

Thanks sonik will have a think. It's never going to be a concourse car but bit disappointing plus it's £120 of paint down the swanny only have approx a litre paint left. Here is a picture of the car from distance it does have a good shine just under the strip lights and up close these bloody marks

It was the same with the wifes car, looked lovely at 10ft but as you got closer you could start to see the pimples. Then as the winter drew in it went haywire. Gutted to say the least. I spent a week changing the front of the car, prepping it all for paint and that happened.

Its a learning curve unfortunately and there is nothing to do but start again. The only thing i will say if it was over existing paint then you may get away with rubbing back to the original paint and start again. But as i said previously if it was bare metal then i'm afraid it will be back to metal again.

to be honest 2pack is easier to spray out the gun imo, but you need to use 1500 wet then 2000 wet or JUST 2000 wet(takes longer). I find its useful to allow at least two days to flat back, this allows the paint to fully cure, ive had it once when the paint(2k) wasnt fully dry when flattened back, absolute nightmare!!

Can't use two pack because of health risks. Anyone recommend decent water traps for I think 1/4 bsp connection as I used the 5 quid jobbies from eBay prob worst mistake of my life. :(
