Hi,

I have tracked down my engine spec and wondered if anyone can approximate power output on this information if possible as I am a newbie.
High lift roller rockers ( purple)
Double valve springs
Minispares competition head stud nut and washers
12g940 head (sorry I am unsure of mods if any)
Wfm1024 a+ block +.20 (1293) tuned by jonspeed
266 cam ( unsure as yet)
New cam bearings
Core plugs
Polished crankshaft at std on mains and big ends
Ae21253 pistons(8.4 dish) fitted to balanced a+ rods
Dam5626 gearbox with 3.44.1 final drive ( might have minispares ms4000 s/c drop set )
Belt driven timing
Verto clutch ( has blue marking spot on it?)
Lightweight flywheel
Wosp high torque starter motor we distributor with vacuum
Leads are yellow with black spots on ??

All of the above is in a fresh build with brand new parts and never fitted.
I feel like I stole it and as a newbie the more I am learning the more this sounds like a good spec engine and ancillaries ??.
Any info would be appreciated
P.s I would prob look at a hif44 based on my previous post.

Thanks again Steve

Stole it as in paid very little for it? How much did you pay. I'm not an expert on engines although am learning fast and that seems to me to be a nice mild to fast road setup that will be nice to drive and reliable if its been done properly. I would estimate 70-80 hp but there are engine gurus on here who will be better able to advise. Without wanting to dishearten you however jonspeed have a very poor reputation for sloppy workmanship and poor quality parts. I personally have had problems when trying to have a standard 998 cylinder head refurbished and have vowed never to use them again. What's the history with the engine? If there is any doubt I would still have it stripped and checked by a reptiable engine builder. If thee works been done right it wont cost a lot for peace of mind and if not will save you a lot compared to if it failed in use. Welcome to the forum as well!

All depends on how good the head is, and if its running standard size valves or been worked on and gas flowded

I managed to get a (rare ??) set of mercury alloys with decent tyres, discs, calipers, totally refurbed driveshafts.all the old gearing in the minispares dropset cardboard box ( which I hope are in the gearbox) and LOADS of other mini bits for only £380.
Already sold some bits and made £130 back !!.

Reason so cheap was bloke " ran off with the other women", I was told to go and see it as
A. She wanted it gone
B. needed money

Right place right time ( did have to miss castle coombe though)

I believe that the engine was a 1275, machined +o.20 by jonspeed to 1293. Confirmed by "Andy " at jonspeed.

Jonspeed have quoted 320 plus vat to strip and rebuild ??, like I said it is a fresh build and I know the builder was very into his mini's with good knowledge.

Any recommendations for engine builders near herefordshire area welcomed.

Sorry should of said all parts were purchased as a kit and built by previous owner, apart from machining of block.

Between 60 and 100bhp depending on cylinder head modifications.

you'l only get over 80 if you have an extrememly good head

its torque you want mine only has 74 bhp but 80 torque at 4000

mg metro cam similar to your 266

but all dynos different

90bhp is going to take more than the current spec of your engine, unless the heads been worked as gas flowed with bigger valves and a different cam (276) and the compression ratio worked out, I'd be more inclined to say you'll have similar power to 1275 Cooper of the 1990s about 60-65bhp.

A standard MG Metro 1275 was 72bhp with a HIF44 and its cylinder head with the MG Metro cam which as pointed out by Bob above is similar to the 266 which is a more updated version

I know when talking to slark about dyno said it was a mg metro engine

and should give 74 bhp - he smiled haven't seen one yet

My basic engine spec in my old Mayfair was similar but with a standard duplex and twin 1 1/4" SUs with K&N cones.
It was +030" but the head was an MED Road/Comp head. 79Bhp at the flywheel according to Minispeed's rolling road. So if your head is good, expect somewhere around that figure. If a smaller valve 12G940 head, expect a drop of about 10%.

Forget about peak power, it's the torque which is more important unless it is an out-&-out competition car pulling top revs a lot of the time.

100% agree Cooperman. My engine had a lovely flat torque curve and had similar lb ft figures to the bhp but lower down the rev range. A really tractable engine. That 266 cam was great!
