i have a metro electronic dizzy and want to put it on my A+ 1275 engine. What do i need to do to make it work guys?? extra wiring etc . A wiring diagram would be good even if bodged but intstructions for fitting equally useful

Thanks

There should be 2 wires coming out of the dizzy. If i remember correctly, one is white and black, the other white and yellow. The white and black connects to the negative of the coil, the other goes to the positive on the coil...

there is a 12v supply to the + side of the coil too and sometimes rev counter to the - side make sure its the correct coil for the dizzy i.e leccy ignition one

cant remember what year they change the minis but i have a h reg that runs a ballest resistor some are some arnt (the pink wire to the coil+) if your mini has this you will have to change it to a diffrent live wire that becomes live when the ignition is on,if you dont the mini will run ok but it will have a missfire when you start switching things on inside you mini like lights heaters etc etc .....as the it drops the voltage.oh and make sure that you use the correct coil for the metro elctronic dizzy

Yup, fuse 1. Green and white wires (green fused, white unfused). Join onto the fusebox there and run down to the coil +. Remove both the pink/white and white/yellow wires from the coil + and tape the ends up securely with at least three wraps of electrical insulating tape, tape the ends back securely to the side of the loom and leave them alone. Remove the white/yellow from the starter solenoid and do the same to isolate the end of it. Fit the electronic ignition type coil and connect the Metro ignition pack up to it as described above. The electronic ignition dizzy needs the electronic ignition coil which cannot be run with a ballast resistor so you need to do this to get a proper ignition supply.

fell so stupid i gave advise above on how i fteed my dizzy and coil and now after less than 3 miles its gone and blown the coil had a quick read on minispares hints and tips bit and it seems i may have the wrong coil its electornic ignition but think it may be for a differnt system it was talking about 6 or 9 volt ballasted systems and if you use a coil from this it will not work for long my cars a 1980 and i have one wire from the loom which shows 12v when ignition is on i will test that it doesnt drop when cranking, just a warning to people check what loom you have and pick components to match

anyone know much about the 123 ignition dizzy? any good?

If you are using the Metro electronic dizzy, use the Metro electronic ignition coil. The Magnetronic one is designed for the Magnetronic system which has different electrical requirements. It is designed to work with the standard ballasted coil so the Magnetronic coil has the same resistances as the standard coil but higher output.

Part no. GCL143. This is the only one which is reliable with that dizzy.

Just to clear up here is the white and black wire coming from the dizzy supposed to be connected to the -ve side of the coil? because mine is not connected to anything and hasn't been for a year, it runs well but there is a bit of bogging down between quick gear shifts, is this why?

If your dizzy wasn't connected to your coil the car wouldn't start or run at all. There are two white/black wires there, the disconnected one must be your tacho feed (don't say 'I don't have a tacho', almost all Minis wired for one whether they have one or not).
